Hazel House Berry
History
In the heart of historic Berry, tucked behind lush hedging, the original weatherboard cottage at Hazel House Berry dates to 1896. It once served as the headquarters for the Berry Half Squadron/Light Horse Orderlies. The Berry Half Squadron of Lancers was stationed in Berry, and played a role in the Second Boer War (11 October 1899 – 31 May 1902), and as the 1st Light Horse Regiment during World War I (28 July 1914 – 11 November 1918). Active from 1885 to 1924, the unit was known for its strong ties to the local community.
Now beautifully restored to a high standard, minimal structural work was undertaken to preserve the cottage’s original footprint and heritage charm - including the original windows, internal doors, wood-panelled ceilings and walls, architraves & cornicework, and the brick fireplace in the kitchen.
Featured on the cover of Country Style Magazine, Hazel House Berry seamlessly blends history with modern comforts, providing a luxurious, yet relaxed South Coast escape for small groups of friends or families.
