A Heritage Icon - Where Parisian History, Literary Legend, and Boutique Luxury Meet

History

An intimate five star boutique hotel in the heart of Saint Germain, L’Hôtel Paris holds centuries of artistic life within its walls. The origins of the site date back to the 17th century, when it was occupied by La Reine Margot’s Pavillon d’Amour. Built in 1828 by Célestin-Joseph Happe at a time of urban redevelopment along the Left Bank, its facade is a beautiful example of Neo-Renaissance architecture, with proportioned windows, classical mouldings, and a restrained elegance characteristic of the period.

The building was known as Hotel d’Allemagne in 1868, and then Hotel d’Alsace after the war of 1870. Irish writer and playwright Oscar Wilde took up residence at the end of the 19th century, and lived at L’Hôtel until his death in 1900 - famously claiming to 'live above his means'.

Popular with artists, writers and musicians for decades, from the 1960s, after an extensive refurbishment in 1967, L’Hôtel became known as the place to be seen in Paris. Famous visitors have included Salvador Dali, Princess Grace, Frank Sinatra and Elizabeth Taylor to Richard Burton, Jim Morrison and Serge Gainsbourg. And fittingly, nestled in one of the most romantic quarters in the city of love, L’Hotel is also where Frank Sinatra romanced Ava Gardner.

In the 20th century, the hotel’s interiors were reimagined by celebrated French designer Jacques Garcia, who layered antiques, bold colour, and exquisite fabrics to create opulent spaces with a distinctively curated feel. Today, L’Hôtel is Paris’ most iconic small boutique hotel, loved for its history, glamour, and unmistakeable Parisian flair.

Accommodation

20 Suites — Pet Friendly — Accessible

With just 20 luxurious bedrooms and suites, L’Hôtel offers a truly personalised boutique hotel experience. Set over six floors and anchored by an extraordinary central spiral staircase, each room is unique - with antiques, rich fabrics and colours, warm lighting, original art, and themes that draw on the history of Paris and France, including Charles X, Reine Hortense, and of course, Oscar Wilde.

Choose from one of six Mignon rooms, looking out over Rue de Beaux Arts, to larger suites such as the utterly romantic Reine Hortense, with a separate bath, sitting area, and private balcony overlooking the rooftops of Paris. The hotel’s iconic Oscar Wilde suite features a large private terrace, and bathroom with a separate bath and walk-in shower.

For those seeking further space, L’Apartment has a terrace overlooking the city’s rooftops and the bell tower of Saint Germain-des Prés. Named after Louis-Antoine, Cardinal of Noailles, the Cardinal’s robe was the inspiration behind the luxurious red velvet drapes and silk fabric walls.

Modern comforts are woven throughout each room, with air conditioning, WiFi, well-stocked minibars, complimentary coffee & tea, and full-size Green & Spring bath products. Pets are also welcome by arrangement, and L’Hôtel also offers accessible suite accommodation.

All rooms also include 1 hour private use of the hotel’s Hamman Pool, an incredible vaulted indoor swimming pool set beneath stone arches, your own secluded haven in the heart of Paris. Enjoy the subterranean pool, steam room, and treatment suite during your appointment.

Dining and Bar

Wilde’s Lounge, a nod to the hotel’s infamous former resident, invites guests to linger in surrounds that echo the bohemian spirit of the Left Bank. With an interior inspired by the Empire period, soft lighting, cosy seating, and opulent textures provide the perfect setting for classic cocktails and memorable connection.

Before heading out to explore the city, begin your day with a leisurely à la carte breakfast, crafted to perfection. Choose to dine either in the hotel’s elegant guest lounge, or the privacy of your bedroom or balcony, listening to Paris as it wakes.
